Back to Basics Skincare was established in 2021, during a stage in my life where time to myself was something I wasn’t used to having. 

I went from being a busy mum to 2 very sporty sons, soccer Mum, golf caddy, constant driving, cheering them on, treating their injuries, cooking for them (constantly) and cleaning up after them, and I loved every minute of it. 

Then they grew up, they left school, they learnt to drive, and they didn’t need me like they did before. I now had all this spare time, and I felt lost. I needed a passion! 

I had started using essential oils about 6 years ago, and I loved everything about them. There really is an oil for everything! I had accumulated quite a collection and wanted to use them in other ways. I bought a book ‘Naturally inspired’ by Krissy Ballinger and I was certainly inspired, thanks Krissy! 

I got to work making my own skincare products, adding my precious oils. I started out making my own moisturiser, vapor rub balm and magnesium sprays (for the boys sports). They were all better than anything I had paid a fortune for in the shops. I had friends and family asking me to make some for them too, and it got me wanting to try my hand at more things. I ordered some melt and pour soap base and made a few soaps, which were lovely! So gentle on the skin and full of amazing ingredients, but I wanted to start from scratch, I wanted to control everything that went into my skincare.

I had never been a soap user, it always made my skin feel so dry. I realised, from reading books on soap making, that there were so many unnecessary ingredients in store bought skincare products, ingredients that I couldn’t even pronounce, and wondered if that was why I didn’t like any of the soaps I had tried. 

I booked into a beginners cold processed soap making course and absolutely loved it. The ingredients were raw, natural, skin loving and MINIMAL, literally just oils and butters mixed with a lye solution and then you use your artistic talents to create a beautiful soap, your way. I had a few disasters, wasted a lot of ingredients, but once I got the hang of it, there was no stopping me, I was literally addicted. 

I use the highest grade ingredients, organic where possible. My favourite soaps include natural colourants and my amazing essential oils, and this is what you will find most of in my store. I love the added benefits that essential oils give, and encourage anyone buying my soaps to research each oil I include, to see how beneficial they can be for aromatherapy, emotional support, and your daily skincare. You will be amazed!

All of my products are handmade by me, at my home in Perth, Western Australia.

Cold processed soaps take 4-6 weeks to cure before they are ready to be sold, so please take this into consideration when making special requests.
